Giant House in Quarantine

First off, I thought it had been a year since I last wrote anything here, its been three. Wow. WordPress is really different now. Second, Covid 19 is crazy and I just want everyone to stay safe and be healthy. It has in someways been hard on creativity and simultaneously a creativity catalyst.

One update I have is I finally finished Fire In Your New shoes. Its a fun little music video we did back a few years ago, and you can check it out here. Jessica and Andrew did an outstanding job.

The other thing is I have been moving along with a number of side projects that we did a while back. Are they great? Well… Were they fun to make? Yes. Does it feel good to create videos just to create videos and stretch those creative muscles? Most definitely. I don’t have a fully realized end goal with all of this in mind, and I think that’s ok. I just want to keep creating, keep learning and having fun. Right now I am about done with our second Interrogators short. Hoping to drop that real soon. After that not 100% sure what I will finish next, but I did start cutting an old project that never got to make the last two film festivals we did. So hopefully that one will be able to completed soon and then we will see…

Stay safe!

Giant House Vintage Video Updates

So I am nicknaming all our way old stuff that I am just getting to edit as “Giant House Vintage.” I have mixed feelings about taking 8 or 9 or 20 years to edit stuff but it is sure fun to relive some of these old memories. Anyway here is a brief rundown for anyone who may care even a little bit.

Gymnics: The 2008 Homeshow prep documentary simply called Gymnics Show 2008 is very very close to being done. Just recorded and cut narration in it yesterday. After that I have a interview bonus video to do. Both I am hoping to be done with it in the coming month. Afterwards I am looking at editing the 2009 Show which would be my last.

Star Voyage: It is so cheesy but its seriously my favorite thing we have done. Not too much to say other than I have started cutting episode 7. I would love to have 7 and 8 all cut together this year. I also have hopes that by the time they are edited we will have a solution for all the effects. So far I have a pretty good idea of how it will be accomplished and have been working the past few months in that direction.

Conspiracy is also a lot more complete than I remembered, so when I am doing effects for 7 and 8 I will probably work on that as well.

Polly: Polly is all shot now. That feels so good. And it is probably around 65%-70% edited. After Gymnics I will turn on that.

Interrogators: Really no excuse, I have been sitting on it too long. its 99% done so I will turn it out here this spring.

New Year, New Perspective

I have been slowly coming to a realization over the past few months or so. I have been very mixed up as to what this website is all about, trying to make it into two, three or even four things all at once, taping them together and trying to force them to be one cohesive vision. But that isn’t going to work. So this year, I am refocusing myself on our website, and the content I create here. This site is about creating things, creating art, creating fun, just plain creating.

No forced goals, no forced preconceived notions or expectations on myself other than just to have fun creating and trying new things. Isn’t that what art and creativity should be about? Trying something new, daring to fail, and even daring to succeed. My wife teaches me so many profound things when it comes to creativity and expression, and I am inspired by her and in this new year I am go to refocus this site on the things that James and I and other friends have enjoyed creating over the years… fun.

I already have a new website layout that I love and that we launched over a year ago, but now its time to update the focus. And our blogs layout could use a tweak or two also.

Creating art, stories, fun is what I love to do. I get to use those passions in my everyday life for the most part, but there are parts of me that I don’t get to explore in that venue, so that is why I have gianthouse.com. Here is to a more creative and creatively freeing 2017.

So many projects!

I feel a little bit more organized but still a long way to go. I have spend the last number of months organizing my digital media making sure it is backed up and secure. ( Before that I took a year or two just gathering it from its various media formats and transferring it to hard drives) I have also been excited to be working with James and Brandon on doing some outlining of stories which as been going well. But right now, this week I have been exicted to redisvoer some old Gymnics Show footage from 2007. I am getting close to having it editing, and look forward to showing it off, hopefully later this week. We are keeping on!

New Year New Projects

We have started a new year and it is time for me to layout some of the projects I want to tackle as well as look back on what was accomplished last year. So I got married and James and myself both work doing videos for the Adventist Learning Community. That keeps us busy pretty much all the time leaving little time for new projects. However as I have moved into a new house and slowly set up my editing room (still plenty of work to go there too) I have been chipping away at all our old projects. Last year I released a new memories video, finished a promo video for a client and cut together a small Star Voyage moments video. But this year I have hopes of pushing out more projects. First up is a overhaul of our website that I started back in 2014. I am looking to launch that in February of this year so I hope I can make that happen. After that I would love to finish our last Interrogators video (so close!) and to cut together a Star Voyage memories video. After those are done I am not sure what will be tackled next. Lots of projects too look at. Kind of want to cut another memories video or two and also very interested in cutting Fire in your new shoes. A fan music video we did a few years back. Right now I guess I am picking the low hanging fruit. However… I am working on learning some more visual effects software, because you know that might be handy when I get around to finishing some more effects based videos we did back in the day.

Check out our youtube channels

So while productions on our various projects ebbs and flows one thing we have been busy doing is putting up our old videos on two youtube channels. Check out www.youtube.com/gianthousearchive to see our older videos from high school and college. Also check out www.youtube.com/gianthouse to see some of our newer videos and ones where we old all the copywrites too.

I try to add videos as often as I can, and only have a few more before all of them are up online. At least of our short videos. The Gymnics show and Star Voyage is another matter. I will be re-posting the Gymnics show as soon as I can too along with some episodes of the old Star Voyage series, if you wait patiently.

Also we have one scene left to shoot for Polly… and we are done!

And a new integrators episode is being editing as well. I hope to have that up by February. Happy New Year.

It is Summer

Wow summer time is always so busy. I mean we think we have tons and tons of time and plan out all these projects, but someone everything seems like it is on fast forward. Right now some of what we are tackling are as follows.

– Working on scripts for a new series “Lost in the Woods”

– Still and forever working on our website.

– Weddings and more weddings

– Another Interrogators short

– Polly (three shots left to call it a wrap)

– Capturing old VHS footage from a long long time ago.

Speaking a little more to that last point, I have really enjoyed going though some old footage that has sat in my “vault” for years and years. A lot of it is just personal family footage that is priceless to me, but there are also James and my early films such as Star Voyage, Gigante and Huset Special Editions and even behind the scenes footage from my very very first trial and failure at making a movie back in 1994.  I am not sure which of this stuff is every going to see the web, but I probably wouldn’t be too opposed to seeing some of it made viewable. Ok I guess my break is over, back to making our main website.
